Just a quickie....

An extremely quick update on life here...

Co-worker G may be getting the idea that I am not interested. But I'll soon find out. It's been difficult to IM while I've had a trainee all week.

Trainee V is beyond excellent, and I'm sure she'll do well. I'm training her with more effort than I've given any other trainee. I probably shouldn't have her too much longer, but I'm not sure.

Not much going on at home. We seem to be playing more video games than watching movies and/or television shows at the moment.

I finished my second book of the year so far, and have started my third. I'm sticking with Sophie Kinsella and then I think I may go back to Philippa Gregory or Charlaine Harris. I'll go with whichever strikes my fancy once I finish my other two Sophie books (and I haven't picked up the others by then).

The Wii and the DS rock!!!!

I think more pictures next week...

That's all for now.

Pay it forward...

The first five people that respond to this post will get something made by me. It will be tailored to those first five people who respond.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
+ I make no guarantees that you will like what I make.
+ What I create will be just for you. (I'll make a post in my LJ when all gifts are done.)
+ It'll be done this year.
+ You have no clue what it's going to be. (Maybe a drabble, maybe a post just for you, maybe... who knows).
+ I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well!

Ok, weird...

So this week hasn't been very eventful... ok, well, maybe a little.

I have a co-worker who I've gotten to know on slightly more personal level. From the time he was hired, he always flirted with me, and I with him but harmlessly. Before I left for England he told me that he liked me more than a friend and had wanted to date me. I was never interested in him like that and there are reasons for that actually. First, he's still somewhat involved with his ex (girlfriend/wife/still unsure) with whom he has a very small child with. I know they share a car and I think even living quarters. It's very strange, but he won't ever actually talk about it. (Not to mention the whole co-worker thing, as I've done that before on 2 occasions and it obviously didn't turn out well.) I've told him that I'd never get truly involved with him (not that I want to) until he came clean about this stuff.

Anyways, we still talk all the time and flirt constantly, but again, I flirt with everyone so it truly doesn't mean anything. This week he drove me home from work, which he has done before with no incident. This week, he kissed me, and not well mind you. It's just bizarre how I get myself into these situations. I hate getting into these situations where I have to confront someone or hurt someone, but this isn't going any further. He seems to think we're dating now or something because he IMs me at work saying that he's gonna bring wine coolers round so we can get to know each other better. I don't wanna get to know him any better, and now it just feels awkward.

Aside from that, dingoespain has been lovely enough to rent Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii from her work, and it's been awesomely fun!!! We spend hours on end building our town, kanevill. Fishing is awesome... I caught a lobster this morning. Not to mention the countless pond smelts and sea bass. Can't wait for the summer because it'll look totally different. Because we've been having so much fun with the game, we've ordered it. We're gonna hold onto the rental until the purchase one comes so we don't have to lose our momentum on it. Nothing much happens except just everyday living, but omg! fun!!!

We wore ourselves out with the bowling last week, so we're not so sore when we play anymore. But tennis zapped us yesterday. Holy hell, you can get really into that. Looking forward to getting the Wii Fit and going a proper workout.

As far as tv, we've been watching things off the Tivo for a slight change of pace. We watched Lie To Me, which was really good. Somewhat predictable, but good. I'm looking forward to it going deeper into some things, but I don't like the human nature element to it. We got caught up with Supernatural, and watched the 2 episodes that aired since the break. And it's good to have the boys back. We did a slight marathon of Fringe as we'd gotten a bit behind on that. I do like this show, I'm just sick of people talking in riddles. I know it's supposed to be edgy and intriguing, but sometimes you just crave a normal conversation. I don't have a lot of patience with it, but I do like the show so I'm sticking with it. Um, we're also keeping on top of Christian Kane- I mean his show, Leverage, which is great. Can he please flip his hair more and show more of his arms, because omg! HOT!!!!

I think that's about it. Just trying to keep up my weekly post thing... doing well so far...
More pictures to come next week, but I haven't got the patience for it this evening.

OMG!!! I spent how much?!

Okay, so as I posted before, dingoespain have not been very sensible lately. We still haven't been cured of this need to shop. We swore that after Christmas was over, we'd take it easy and pay off our bills. Instead we decided to have a bit more fun.

We bought a Wii. We're not big video game people, but this just looks like so much fun. But we didn't stop there... we also got a Metallic Rose DS Lite handheld system. Naturally we needed games for both, so we got those too.

When we got home Saturday evening, we spent the rest of the night playing all the games on the Wii. Bowling is our favorite of the moment. We made ourselves awfully sore from the hours we spent playing that! It actually feels like I've handled a bowling bowl for around 5 hours.

Can't wait to get the Wii Fit, if the first game is any indication...

As far as other things, we tried watching Max Payne, and quickly gave up on that. We watched Saw 5, and damn Scott Patterson. I adore him, but that movie was awful. All the others had been really clever, and I enjoyed them. (Never thought I'd say that about a horror movie) Hot men need to stop doing bad horror movies.

We finally watched Wall-E, and that may be one of the cutest movies ever. It's like Short Circuit updated eith a message. We also watched Igor, which was just okay. It was just kind of funny.

American Idol has started, and I'll definitely be watching again this year. I really like the new judge, she seems to know what she's doing. Very impressed with her!

And I'm sorely hurting for icons... I hate not having extra space. I'm sadly no longer a paid LJ member... :-(

Anyways, I think that's everything for now.

Posting!

Seeing as the first week of the new year is over, I guess it's time for an update.

New Year's day was spent parked on the couch with the family (dingoespain, Kane, Carlson and Bella. We played games, and Carlson and Bella won more than either one of us. It very low key as I was starting to get a sore throat.

The next day we were both very sick, but dragged ourselves into work anyways. It was tough, but it was Friday so it felt shorter.

After work Friday and most of Saturday was spent nursing our sicknesses. Somehow, dingoespain got it worse than me to start and she's was sneezing and coughing more than me. I had a severe scratchy throat and clogged sinuses.

All day Sunday should've been spent in bed, because we still weren't up for anything. But alas, it was the final performance of Grease. It was meant to be Ace's final performance anyways, so I was going to be there for that, come hell or high water. The fact that I spent any money on that show is bad enough, but to buy tickets and miss it would be a total waste. But at least I got my Ace hug...

Oh, and the guy who played Danny was cute as well...

We then made our way over to Junior's for dinner as we had time befor seeing the show. And even though we were feeling rough, we made our way over to Rockefeller Center to see the tree all lit up at night. I'm glad we did, because it's breathtaking at night. And the camera decided to behave this time.

Herald Square:

Macy's Entrance:

Christmas Tree:

Time managed to get away from us a bit, but we managed to get back to the show just in time to see the show. We were eager to get home after the show, so we ran afterwards to catch the 9:30pm bus out of the city. But we caught this after the performance (absolute chaos with everyong hugging and crying and congratulating each other):

On Monday, it was back to work, although making our excursion into the city on Sunday had made us a bit sicker. Well, at least me. I spent Tuesday and Wednesday in bed feeling like death. I'm getting better, but still not completely 100%. I went to work on Thursday, but I'm back in bed again today. We don't have the money for me to go to the doctor, because my insurance has screwed with my PCP, so until I get that straightened out I'm out of luck. I just don't have the energy to deal with the insurance company (which is why I'm not at work).

I'll spend the rest of today in bed, as well as the weekend and I should back to my regular self. As a result of all the time at home, I've managed to spend quality time with my tv. As I posted before, I wanted to watch 500 episodes of television and 100 movies.

I watched Jane Eyre, the new edition from Masterpiece Theatre. OMG!! Jane Eyre is my very favoritest novel ever, and this movie was a very excellent adaptation. I make it a point to see all versions of this story, so it was only a matter of time. The only versions I've liked are the A&E version (Ciaran Hinds as Rochester, thank you very much!) and BBC version (Timothy Dalton as Rochester and the most complete version I've ever seen). But I have to say that overall, this is my favorite aside from the musical. Toby Stephens as Rochester is inspired, and portrays it for all the things Rochester is. He's grumpy and surly and passionate and playful and loving and all the conflicting things that Rochester is. Ruth Wilson as Jane Eyre was absolutely incredible. It's difficult playing Jane, as she must be plain enough that you can pass right over her, yet she must have that spark that Rochester finds appealing. She's got it like no one else has been able to capture before on film. (Again, I still prefer Marla Schaffel and James Barbour from the musical.) I highly recommend this movie. Just watch it.

Then dingoespain and I watched Mirrors and Wanted. Mirrors was creepy until the end. They threw a twist into it that made no sense. Wanted was an awesome action movie, if the slow motion bits were a slightly overdone. That was awesome and new in Matrix. Now it just feels overdone, been-there-done-that-bought-the-tshirt kind of thing.

Aside from that, I've been catching up on Lost. dingoespain has been trying to get me to watch this ever since we met. I had finished the 1st season late last year. I sped thru Season 2 and 3, and I'm now looking forward to watching Season 4. I'm over the whole intrigue thing, as I've seen it in Alias and I'm used to it now. Besides that I'd heard about some of the major plot points so they weren't a shock when they came up. However I don't think I've heard anything spoilery about Season 4, so I'm looking forward to that.

I have 4 words for everyone: ROCK OF LOVE BUS
I'm insanely excited about this, because I love my trash tv. Seeing as Rock of Love Charm School ended, this is a perfect replacement. Although, I loved Bret with Jess (1st season) and Amber (2nd season) even more, it's hard to let that go and have him move forward with someone else. Whatever happened with Amber?

And of course, American Idol is starting again soon. *squees just a little*

So I think that's everything!

2008: a year in review

I've had some very good things happen this year, I have to admit. I decided the best way to explain all the changes is thru picture and short explanations.

dingoespain and I have been in our apartment/home for a little over a year now. And we've spent most of the year furnishing and filling out apartment with things that we like. I'm nearly done with my room. I just need a bookcase (and I know which one I want) and poster frames for some of my Broadway window cards. Here's what our place looks like:
The steps to our apartment (looking down):

Here is my room:

I've got more pictures of the place, so I may post them over time. As I said, my room is still looking a little bare because I don't have any art up yet (really, those print outs of Christian Kane, Steve Carlson, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are not what I planned). And some of my stuff is still in boxes in my closet.

In April, we adopted another kitty. (We already had Kane, because I had him since he was a baby.) We adopted Carlson from someone off Craig's List, and he's a handful. He was about 4 or 5 months old when he joined the family.

In May for Donna's birthday, we went to the Bronx Zoo. The tiger was the best part, but we enjoyed our day there.

In June, we managed to adopt another kitten. This was completely unplanned, but she's a beautiful addition to our household. This is Grizabella (Bella, Binky or Miss B. for short):
<a href="http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn248/dingoandhyde/Kitties/Bella/?action=view&current=SS850590.jpg" If you want to see pics of her room, you'll have to visit her LJ.

In September, because Donna and I were both making a bit more money, started seeing Broadway shows again. I used to go a lot a few years back, so I've gotten Donna into it as well. We managed to see Xanadu, Grease, A Tale of Two Cities, and the Little Mermaid all in one week.
<a href="http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn248/dingoandhyde/Broadway/?action=view&current=G8.jpg" We haven't finished taking our NYC Xmas pictures, so I'll post those next week. We are headed to see Grease this weekend for the closing and to see Ace off again.

Stay tuned, as 2009 looks to be as interesting and as life changing as 2008!

Happy New Year!

As is the tradition when a new year rolls in, most make new year's resolutions. I'm no different. I have decided that I will use my LJ more often and try to update it at least once a week. I also wanted to continure with my lists of books, movies and tv shows to watch. I didn't keep up with my lists towards the end of the year, but I know I did meet my goal of books to read and 500 episodes to watch. I did not meet my movie goal. I'm going to set the same goals for myself this year: 500 television episodes to watch (that I have never watched), 100 movies (that I have never watched), and 12 books to read (that I have never read). And I am also striving to lose weight, which is probably the most important.

We're actually doing a pool at work over the next 5 months to see who can lose the most as far as pounds and percentage. I'll be weighed in on the 7th with everyone else in the office participating. Whoever wins gets the entire pot after everyone puts in $25. I'm not sure how many people are participating yet, but it is really good program, I thought.

So that's it for me. I hope you all had a safe and fun new year's celebration. Happy new year to all my flist. *hugs*

I will be doing a year in review post very soon, including pictures!

Broadway/Update

Donna and I have been quite the broadway babies recently! We've been spending nearly every other weekend going to see shows, just to make sure we see all we want to before everything closes in January. It's been a lot of fun. I know I've posted, but I wanna do a quick recap before I forget so I have note of it.

It all started at the Broadway Flea Market, when we saw Xanadu. We'd purchased tickets to see Ace Young in Grease that next week. Then for my birthday we saw A Tale of Two Cities and The Little Mermaid. A few weeks later we spent another Saturday seeing Spamalot and Wicked (with Kerry Ellis). We got lucky for the rush seats for Young Frankenstein on another Saturday, followed by Legally Blonde. We bought tickets for Phantom of the Opera ahead of time, and saw that on a Friday night.

Howard McGillin is probably the most animated Phantom I've ever seen. I'm a bit tired of that show. It's well done, and I would recommend it to anyone. But overall I think I'm done with that show. Unless there's someone in it that I specifically want to see, I don't think I'll go back. As a said note, Elizabeth Loyacano (Christine) is absolutely flawless as Christine, and I don't particularly care for anyone playing that role. But she was absolutely splendid.

Because we had run into my friend Ray over at the Two Cities theatre, he had told us the show was closing that Sunday. Thank God, Donna was off that Sunday so we could go back into the city to see the last performance of A Tale of Two Cities. (We'd been planning to see the show again anyways, so it just kind of worked out.)

As I had posted before we had purchased tickets for the Xmas Spectacular at Radio City for the past week. Unfortunately we purchesed another set of tickets for the same time to see Spamalot again with Clay before he leaves and the show closes. We weren't thrilled about getting into the Xmas spirit before Thanksgiving, so we sold the Radio City tickets. Since we bought tickets for Jersey Boys the same weekend, we made it a complete theatre weekend. We went in on Saturday to see Tom Hewitt in Chicago. I love that man, he's such an incredible talent. I'm sick of the show because it just seems tired. I think the last 3 times I've seen the show Charlotte D'Ambroise has been it, and it wasn't recently that I saw Chicago. That woman needs to retire from that show.

Don't get me wrong, she wasn't bad or even boring. I'd just like to see someone else in that show. New, fresh blood would probably breathe some life back into that show because it just seems tired. I don't know if I can actually describe it any other terms. But I'm grateful I got to see Tom Hewitt. After seeing Chicago, we saw the evening show of Jersey Boys. Why did I wait so long to see this show?! It's probably one of the best shows on Broadway at the moment. It's fantastic!

Matt Bogart, my quintessential Broadway leading man, is currently in it. We got to greet him after the show despite it being so cold. It was a proper reunion actually, and we got to talk for quite awhile. I've missed him, and I'm counting my lucky stars he's back on Broadway. He's so talented and dedicated to his craft.

The next day we were back in the city to see the matinee of Young Frankenstein (again). Donna got a kick out of Christopher Fitzgerald as Igor in the chair scene. If you've seen the show, you'll know what I mean. Luckily we managed to catch his final performance as he's moving on. So fate does actually move in mysterious ways. That night we caught Spamalot (again).

So that's it. We have to see Grease once more before Ace leaves in January, then we're taking a bit of a break from Broadway. I would like to see Shrek, but I'm not sure I wanna spend all that much money on it. Even with the discount, it's wildly expensive right now.

What I did with my Saturday...

Because Donna and I have been trying so hard to see Wicked for the past month, we decided to make yesterday, Saturday another attempt to see Wicked day. For the record, we've seen Xanadu, A Tale of Two Cities and The Little Mermaid because we haven't won lottery Wicked tickets.

So this week, we got an email from playbill.com that Legally Blonde would be closing on October 19. We STILL haven't seen that one yet, and we watched the reality show that chose the new lead, Baily. We liked her a lot, so we've been flirting with the idea of seeing, just hadn't gotten around to it. Thankfully, with the announcement that the show was closing, playbill sent a great discount. We printed that off to take with us, just in case we didn't see Wicked again.

Our bus was about 20 minutes late yesterday, making us very late into the city. Because of this, we couldn't even try for the lottery for the Matinee performance. Not to be discouraged, we tried for Legally Blonde via the discount and TKTS. Apparently, Legally Blonde is hugely popular again because it wasn't available for either yesterday for either the afternoon or evening performance.

Not to be undone, we finally settled for getting tickets for the closing weekend using our trusty discount. We went up to Radio City and purchased tickets for the Christmas Spectacular (thanks again to playbill for the discount!). Unfortunately, we'll be getting into the Christmas spirit the week before Thanksgiving, but at least Donna will be getting the NYC Christmas experience this year properly.

Then we started considering our conundrum for the matinee performance. Since we were up on 52nd St, we hit the Jersey Boys theatre just to see if they had anything for the afternoon. I'd done my research, sadly no discount for this show. Knowing that we had to pay full price for this show did not prepare us for what they had available for the afternoon. $352 for each ticket for "premium seating". I don't know what that is, but I sure as hell don't want it for $352!!! Unless, we're talking premium seating for every show running on Broadway at the moment for a total of $352, then I'm all in. I just can't see spending that on one show for one ticket. For both of us to see that show at the price would be half a month's rent!!! Um, no.

We were just standing outside the theatre after the shock of the price, deciding what to do next when the reason for wanting to see that show walks up. I haven't seen Matt Bogart in years, and I followed that man for awhile. Shit, I was practically his shadow! Anyways, we had a nice little reunion. I finally got my Matt hug that I've been dying for since I'd last seen him.

Still not discouraged, Donna and I made our way over to TKTS for tickets to SOMETHING. After looking at our options and asking who had the best seats available, we went with Spamalot. I've been wanting to see Clay for some time, so this was my chance. I'm not huge on Monty Python so in a way I wasn't really looking forward to this. How wrong I was! This show was so much fun! Clay is incredibly good at musical theatre, and made me laugh a lot. The Guard scene in the second act nearly had me peeing my pants. (FUNNY!!!!) I'm so glad I went. I enjoyed it far more than I ever thought I would.

After the show, we went to the stage door just to see if Clay would come out. There was a mob scene out there, so we couldn't really get all that close to him, but I did manage to get him to sign my playbill - yay!

After that, we went around the corner to meet up with dementordelta who was seeing Harry Potter (aka Daniel Radcliffe) in Equus. We were all ready to snap pics of Harry Potter in person, but Cheryl had to go to the Two Cities theatre a block over. Very discouraged about not snapping pics of Harry Potter, we're determined to get it yet. Anyways, baby alert was happening over at Two Cities. James Barbour's wife gave birth to a daughter about 5 weeks ago. Donna and I got to see the baby last weekend when we saw the show, so this was not new for us. Anyways, we joined Jim and Cheryl down the block to see Jim's baby, Hudson. She's teeny tiny, and Jim is just fascinated with her.

The reason we met up with Cheryl was to have her throw her name into the lottery for us. She had some friends in town as well to see Equus, so she was gonna try to convince them to come with us to throw their names in as well. Unfortunately we only go Cheryl and one other person to come over the Gershwin with us to put their names in. Turns out this night was our night... Donna's name was called!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We won the lottery finally, and we were going to see Kerry Ellis in Wicked on Broadway! Yay!!

We had dinner across the street at Ellen's Stardust Diner (home of the singing wait staff). I love this place, and have done so for YEARS. I remember going with my mother back when I first saw Jekyll and Hyde over 10 years ago. After dinner, we walked over to Virgin quickly and then back to the Gershwin for the show.

I cannot express how amazing Kerry Ellis is. She just blows me away, and I'm absolutely ecstatic that I got to see her again. If you can, SEE HER! We're gonna go in one day with the London souvenier program to have her sign it. As it was, we were getting tired and wanted to get to our bus and get home. As we made our way to Port Authority, we stopped by the Brooks Atkinson to see Ace. He was still outside the door talking with some people and his brother, Ryan was there. He gave us a hug each and had a conversation about theatre with us until he excused himself to go have food. We turned to go, and even Ryan remembered me! Crazy!

As we got down to 44th St, we decided to try our luck at getting a glimpse of Harry Potter. The mob outside that theatre was absolutely staggering! The sidewalk was packed to the Shubert theatre and the Majestic theatres, not to mention the sidewalk across the street. Xanadu had closed (the Helen Hayes theatre being directly across the street from Equus) so people had mobbed in front of there. We got pictures of the mob, but none of Harry Potter. He didn't make it out by the time that we decided to make our way back to Port Authority.

As a side note, we ran into Jason Biggs twice, Wes Craven, and a look alike (if not the actual person) Liza Weil - Paris from Gilmore Girls. A very packed day! I got to swoon over Matt, Jim and Ace all in one day. Yay!

Pictures of the day to follow shortly!

It's been a hell of a week! But oh, so much fun!

So, yeah, it was my birthday this past weekend, and Donna and I had started celebrating early. (Pretty customary for us, really.) It all started last weekend. We went into NYC for the Broadway Flea Market. The original idea was to go in to buy poster frames for my Broadway window cards to finish off my bedroom, but things quickly changed. (Anyone know where I might find those as cheaply as possible? I've obviously tried Triton.)

We bummed around the Broadway Flea Market and the San Gennaro Festival for a little while, but didn't find much. So we decided to try for the Wicked lottery. We are dying to see Kerry Ellis again as Elphaba because she rocked it hardcore when we saw her in London. Obviously I haven't paid for Wicked tickets in full before about 3 times, so I'm done. I want cheapy tickets, damnit!! We didn't win, so we hit TKTS. I would've chose A Tale of Two Cities, but they had just started their new schedule so they didn't have a performance that Sunday. I let Donna choose, and so she picked Xanadu.

She loves the movie (for which we just purchased the special edition dvd) so I swallowed my dislike for Kerry Butler and bought the TKTS tickets. I knew it was supposed to close in October and we'd most likely miss it if we didn't go then. (Who knew it would even move up the closing date two weeks early then?! Spooky!) Cute show! How much do I love Mary Testa?

We'd already bought tickets for Grease way ahead of time, when it had been announced that Ace would join the cast. That was Thursday and you can see my post/pictures here

Donna requested off from work this weekend, so we could celebrate even more. Saturday was my actual birthday, so we headed into the city again. With the idea that we'd have 2 chances to see Wicked by lottery. We didn't win either time, so we ended up hitting TKTS again. We chose A Tale of Two Cities (because I love James Barbour and Gregg Edelman and Ray McLeod) and The Little Mermaid (becasue we both love Disney).

I highly recommend A Tale of Two Cities. So moving, and what a story!! Some of the songs are quite haunting. The cast, for the most part, is high calliber. I cannot sing the praises of Natalie Toro, Brandi Burkhardt, Kevin Earley, James Barbour, and Gregg Edelman enough. Just wow! The show is paced within an inch of its life, and it just seems to fly by. Just amazing! I can't wait to see it again and really take it all in.

Since I've known Raymond McLeod for about 10 years, he invited me backstage. Apparently they are letting anyone back there now. There must have been about 100 people backstage that day, and it felt very crowded. Anyways, as I was walking in, James Barbour was standing right there on the phone. He seemed shocked that I was there, but gave me a quick hug before continuing his phone call. I caught up with Ray a bit and introduced him to Donna. And then Ray introduced us to Gregg Edelman (EEKK!!). The stage area of the Al Hirschfeld is very small, and they obviously do very well with using every bit of it.

Anyways, we were there until we had to go back over to Wicked to try the lottery again. No luck, so got the Little Mermaid tickets. I was both excited and devastated that Norm Lewis was out. I adore him to no end, but I also like his understudy, Merwin Foarde. Sherie Rene Scott is just beyond description phenomenal. I wish the show had been about Ursala. She just absolutely owns it. Sierra Boggess is adorably charming as Ariel. She is just like a living cartoon character. Sean Palmer (as Prince Eric) is a bit disappointing actually. He has very little life behind his characterization, and it just seemed to fall a little flat. Nearly everyone else was top notch. I'm not huge on Disney on Broadway only because they seem so similar to the movies that I feel I can save myself $100+ and stay home and watch the movie. Never cared for Lion King other than the production value. Didn't much care for Beauty and the Beast, because just blah. Aida was probably the best one, because it felt real. (I haven't seen Mary Poppins.) And the Little Mermaid just feels like a glorified high school production with some outstanding sets!! Again, the production value here is just unfathomable.

So that was our NYC adventures this week. Then yesterday we ran around shopping. My god! When you leave your grocery/essential shopping for once a month, you certainly can spend a lot of money and time catching up. We left our apartment yesterday morning around 11am, and couldn't sit down and rest again until 9:30pm. Just wow!

I decided that I shouldn't go to work today, and stayed home to rest. Because on top of all this, I've been nursing a nasty cold. My fever started on Friday morning sometime, and I managed to kick it just in time to enjoy Saturday!

Ace and me!!

So as a birthday present, dingoespain and I went to see Ace in Grease on Broadway. (*SQUEES LOUDLY* I LOVE HIM!!!) The show was not so good. Ace was okay in the acting area which obviously isn't his forte. There was one moment that he had that was so pure, so honest, so true that I nearly fell outta my seat. An actor in the making perhaps.

Anyways, the real reason to go see the show is to stage door afterwards. (And yes, stage door is a verb!) I was right by the barricade, which is good. And I was about the 3rd person from the actual theatre from where the cast members start. I basically ignored everyone else, because they weren't all that good.

Finally Ace came out and started signing playbills and whatnot. I was not long before he got to me. And he looks at me for a moment, and then says, "HEY!!!" He immediately pulls me into the biggest hug in all my life. Never in a million years did I think he would remember me from 2 years ago. Yes, I did follow him around for a whole summer, but it just never occured to me.

So he's talking away while we're hugging and then he lets me go for a moment just to pull me in for another hug. Roomie informs him that it's my birthday and he wished me a good one and all that fun stuff. And then this was followed by another hug!

Then he moved on down the crowd which numbered in the tens really. It was raining, so I guess most everyone gave up and left if they couldn't get near the barricade under the awning. After that everyone kind of dispersed, and we made our way around this car that was parked outside the stage door on the way to our car down the block. And we ran into Ace again. He gave me another hug, and another birthday wish. And we just kinda talked for about a minute before going our separate ways. He did encourage me to stalk him again, so I may just have to - if only for just another hug.

</a>

So I had a fabulous night... how are you?!

Twilight series

Ok, here are my thoughts, so far... (I only have Breaking Dawn to read yet, I've read the first three books.)

My first thought was, even while reading Twilight, is I have a problem with Bella (the narrator). I realize that this is written for minds much younger than my own, so it's simplified. I get that and that's fine. (But I've read all the Harry Potter books which is for an even younger set of minds and I don't have a problem with those.) She has no personality. I think she's a good person, I guess... but I don't really view her as having any redeeming qualities. There's no character developement with her at all. I just don't care about her, because she's not made a sympathetic creature in the slightest.

I have this problem with Edward as well. I'm supposed to want these two togehter, but I don't care. There's no character developement for him either. Except for maybe the fact that he's a vegetarian vampire and he's apparently beautiful (because I'm told he is every other page).

About the only fleshed out character of all the books is Jacob. I just adore him. But I don't feel he's enough to carry all the books, especially since he's barely in Twilight. Granted he plays a big role in New Moon and Eclipse, and I'm unsure what his role will be in Breaking Dawn. But he's the only character who's completely real. (Oh, with the exception of Alice. I love her too!!)

The other thing that bothers me a lot is the lack of plot in these books. The entire plot of each book lasts about 50 pages towards the end of the book with another 30 pages of nonsense after.

I know this will make me severely unpopular with most of my f-list at the moment, because everyone is crazy for these stories. It seems to be growing by leaps and bounds every day. And I don't quite understand that.

With all that said, I still feel completely compelled to keep reading. The books are easy reads, and I won't not read Breaking Dawn.

American Idol

So... I swore I wouldn't get as involved with AI again, like I did with Season 5. But I'm a sucker, and I did. I even got my wife sucked in this year.

We tuned in every week, for every minute of each episode anxiously awaiting the next good singer, or in our case, singers. We had David Hernandez picked at first, until David Cook auditioned. From that moment, we were hooked, although Jason Castro was very much in the running for us.

We even voted when it got down to the last few weeks. Giving Jason some extra time on the show because he made us smile, but always kind of hoping that Cookie would take it all. AND THEN HE DID!!!

Since we liked two of them so much, we swore we'd go see the tour, which we did last night. Our sunburn and shattered voices aside, we had a FANTASTIC time.

We arrived around 12:30 and stood in a line of about 100 people to see if the idols would come off the buses and greet the fans. (I'd had very good luck with this previously during the season 5 tour.) Apparently there were some change of plans somewhere and the idols did not arrive until roughly 4:00pm to the stadium. Only 2 of the idols came around to sign and take pictures.

Kristy Lee:

Brooke White:

We didn't have them sign anything or take pictures with them, because honestly we don't really care for them all that much. They didn't stay long as they had the meet and greet to get inside for, but they were very gracious and friendly to come out at all.

The show was very high energy and a lot of fun! This turned out to be very successful as we got to see 7 out of the 10. Woot! We purchased the tour program so we actually had something for them to sign this time around. So we got them all to sign as they made their way down the line.

Here you go:

(We didn't take another of Kristy... figured we'd gotten enough of her earlier.)

Carly:

Syesha:

Michael:

Brooke:

I have to just say Brooke was very sweet. I had the program open to her page, ready for her to sign to make easy for her to sign and move along. But she stopped, touched my arm, looked into my eyes, and said "Thank you." That, I thought, was very classy. Not quite sure what she was thanking me for, other than maybe attending the concert, but it was a very sweet gesture. She stopped amongst the madness and just took a moment. She's earned my respect for that, even if I don't so much care for her music or style.

David Archuletta:

And our other favorite, we chased this poor guy up and down the line, Jason Castro:

And then our hurried pic with him over the stupid barricade:

(So we look a little crazed, because it was complete madness out there... but at least we got it.
We have a new kitty!

We have a new kitty. Donna's boss rescued a kitten from a parking lot, so dingoespain decided to adopt her. Her name is Grizabella.

We're not sure how old she is, but we'll find out roughly how old on Tuesday when we take her to the vet. But LOOK!!! She's super teeny tiny, and wickedly cute.

*squishes*

Quick catch up!

So I haven't updated recently, nor kept up my promise to keep up with others. I'm sorry about that. But I do have good excuses...

First, I started suffering from my migraines in a big way. I thought it was connected to my time of the month as it usually gets worse around then, but these were not just that. I finally had to go to a doctor after missing 3 days of work. She put me on migraine medication called Imitrex which almost works. She had me rest for the next 2 days of that week to try to get rid of the migraine that wouldn't end.

Anyways, almost immediately after that, Donna had a dental emergency. I'm not sure how much she would like me to divulge here, but it was bad and very painful. She had to make about 3 trips to the dentist across the street. So then she was home for nearly a week as well.

On the day she was meant to go back to work, she called me in a panic about a minute after I walked into work for the day. She was hysterical saying something about the kitten being hurt, and her being hurt and there was blood. I immediately said I'm on my way back home. I asked a very good man at work to give me a ride home because my entire family appeared to be hurt, bleeding, dying, I'm not sure. I was freaking out, because from the short conversation on the phone I could hear both Carlson and Donna crying.

When I got home, Donna was sitting on the couch with the kitten asleep. Donna was only in a towel and she was still a bit weepy. Apparently what had happened was: While Donna was about to get in the shower, Kane and Carlson were chasing each other around the apartment. They had knocked something loose and made a terrible clatter on the way down, so much that Donna had heard it over the running water in the bath tub. The stuff the cats had knocked over turned out to be heavy bars from Donna's bed, and they had hit the kitten's nose on the way down. As Donna went in to her room to see to the damage of her stuff, she had the time to walk around the kitten, set the stuff to rights again, and stand back up again. At that point, the kitten started wailing in pain because the bars had hit him in the nose. He was bleeding, and this turned into a bad situation. She hurried the kitten into the bathroom to see if she could get the bleeding to stop. Meanwhile Kane is freaking out... don't know if it's from things happening so fast, or he doesn't understand what's going on, or he's scared, or he can smell the blood, or whether he thought Donna was hurting Carlson, he kind of flipped. As Donna tried to get to the living room to sit down and try to calm the kitten down and assess the damage. Kane lashed out at Donna's leg with claws and teeth.

When I got in, there was blood everywhere in Donna's room and the bathroom. Luckily the kitten and Donna were calm again. Since Carlson appeared to be napping, I saw to Donna's leg. Deep teeth marks were still bleeding and looked to me like they needed stitches. Meanwhile I started calling around to local vets to see if the kitten being hurt on the nose was a pressing emergency. Most didn't open until 9am, including Kane's and Carlson's doctor. Being 8:20am, we just tried staying calm and assure each other and Kane that everything would be okay. At about 9:10am and not hearing back from the vet's office, I called them again. They asked a whole bunch of questions of Donna and asked to see him at noon (the actual vet wasn't in until then).

So from then to about 11am, we kitty-proofed the apartment to make sure nothing heavy could fall or hurt them. We should have done so before the accident, but hindsight is always 20/20. Hopefully we diverted more emergencies.

We took the kitten to the vet who gave him some meds to keep him nourished and keep his nose clear of blood (as I'm sure there were clots and stuff in there).

All in all, everyone's okay now. I still think we should've taken Donna to get stitches as well, but she'll live. No more dental emergencies and no more catastrophies, God willing.

Anyways, early this week I got summoned into the Collections Supervisor at work. (I'm thinking I'm in trouble and whatever it is I didn't do it.) My Supervisor was already in there. They told me another collector was leaving this week (which I had heard in passing) and that they really like me. They're impressed with how well I handle one of the most difficult payors (also one of the top). I've got it managed within an inch of it's life. I know the moment something goes wrong, and I work on fixing it before it becomes even worse.

I've also got a few smaller payors that follow the same contract and have managed to get those under control. This includes a $90,000 account that we couldn't get paid on from July of last year. I somehow formed a relationship with a supervisor at that payor, and together we were able to get the account paid off without taken too much of a penalty. She was very good to us, considering it was our error that was preventing us from getting paid correctly. We had to take about a $5,000 penalty overall, but we got the other $85,000. It was due to the way I negotiated the penalty with her.

Anyways, my supervisor and his supervisor are very impressed with how I do things, and want to give me more. With the other collector leaving, they had to shuffle some responsibilities around. Therefore one woman was taking on the abandoned payor, and had to give up one of her other payors. I got that. Yesterday was my first day as the responsible person for this payor, and what a mess this woman handed over! I'm just absolutely appalled by the state of things, and it's probably going to take me at least 2 weeks to get it under control. Then there's the incredible job of maintaining both so they don't get out of control again. My God! It just makes me wonder what other people do all day. (I've been helping the woman who sits across the aisle from me as well. And she's very nearly caught up as well.) I told my supervisor that he had to watch out, I'd take over the entire office if I could and they let me.

It's really not a difficult job, once you know what you're doing. It doesn't require huge amounts of time or effort if you want to succeed in it. I happen to being one of those people who likes to do well in their job whether they like it or not. So I put in the effort and get the results. Yay!

Aside from that, we took the baby kitten to get fixed this week. He's doing well, and he seems to have forgiven us for doing it. So all seems to be well now. And hopefully it will remain so.

01. Name a TV show series in which you have seen every episode at least twice:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Friends, Sports Night, Girls Next Door, Rock of Love, Supernatural (except the newest one), Sex and the City, Will and Grace, Wonderfalls, Tru Calling - I think that's it.

02. Name a show you can't miss:
American Idol, House, Rock of Love (when it was on), Supernatural, Smallville, Don't Forget the Lyrics

03. Name an actor that would make you more inclined to watch a show:
That's hard to say. There are probably a bunch of them, but I can't name anyone in particular right now.

04. Name an actor who would make you less likely to watch a show:
Don't think I could name one at the moment, except maybe John Travolta. I just can't stand him.

05. Name a show you can, and do, quote from:
Supernatural, Prison Break, maybe Buffy and Angel

06. Name a show you like that no one else enjoys:
I'm not sure. Luckily my roommate likes them too. But it's usually the reality shows like Rock of Love and Tila Tequila's Shot at Love that no one admits to watching, but everyone loves.

07. Name a TV show which you've been known to sing the theme song:
Rock of Love!! And Facts of Life if anyone remembers...

08. Name a show you would recommend everyone to watch:
Rock of Love, because that show just rocks!! But I usually tell them to watch American Idol. It's incredibly addictive. And 24, because when that show is good, it's just AMAZING!

09. Name a TV series you own: (Between Donna and I)
Andromeda, Stargate SG-1, 24, Alias, Angel, Bones, Buffy, Boston Legal, CSI, Dark Angel, Dawson's Creek, Dead Like Me, Desperate Housewives, Firefly, Friends, Girls Next Door, Hercules, Heroes, House, Kitchen Confidential, Once and Again, Prison Break, Psych, Quantem Leap, Rock of Love, Roswell, Sex and the City, Smallville, Sports Night, Stargate Atlantis, Supernatural, Tru Calling, V, West Wing, Will and Grace, Wonderfalls, Young Riders

10. Name an actor who launched his/her entertainment career in another medium, but has surprised you with his/her acting chops in television?
I'm gonna cheat a bit here. Kiefer Sutherland launched his career in movies, but he's incredible on 24. It's amazing how he can carry the tension for an entire season. He launched his career as a movie actor, but he's amazing on television as well. And I have to say Neil Patrick Harris. That guy can do anything! Act, Sing, Dance, Drama, Comedy - I'm sure he could perform brain surgery as well... I'm almost sure of it.

11. What is your favorite episode of your favorite series?:
My favorite series changes from time to time, it really depends on my mood. So I'll just name a few: Buffy - Once More With Feeling, CSI - Anatomy of a Lye or Scuba Doobie Doo, Angel - Smile Time, Friends - The One When No One is Ready, Rock of Love - Season 2 finale. There are tons more... just don't wanna sit here naming them all.

12. Name a show you keep meaning to watch, but you just haven't gotten around to yet:
Stargate, Crimianl Minds, Psych (besides the first ep... need to watch more!)

13. Ever quit watching a show because it was so bad?:
Terminator is the only one I can think of at the moment.

14. Name a show that's made you cry multiple times:
Nearly every single one: 24, Alias, Buffy, Angel, Boston Legal, CSI, Friends, House, Prison Break, Rock of Love, Sex and the City, Smallville, Supernatural, Tru Calling, West Wing, Will and Grace... everything makes me cry.

15. What do you eat when you watch TV?:
nearly every meal is eaten in front of tv, and every snack as well.

16. How often do you watch TV?:
Everyday at least 2 or 3 hours a day.

17. What's the last TV show you watched?:
Don't Forget the Lyrics

18. What's your favorite/preferred genre of TV?:
Comedy/Drama or reality

19. What was the first TV show you were obsessed with?
It was a show called Tribes. I was in middle school or high school at the time. Anyone remember it?

20. What TV show do you wish you never watched?:
Oh, God... no idea

21. What's the weirdest show you enjoyed?
Tila Tequila's A Shot at Love

22. What TV show scared you the most?
Both Angel and Supernatural have one episode that scare me. Angel - Hellbound and Supernatural - Bloody Mary and parts of Provenance.

23. What is the funniest TV show you have ever watched?
Friends - the one with Joey and the air quotes.

May monthly list to come!

I just joined this awesome community that asks 5 difficult questions every week, and it helps people get to know you.

So here's this week's:

1. If you had the ability to legally change your name, would you? To what?

I've thought about it, but I don't know if I'd actually go through with it. I'm not particularly fond of my name (first, middle or last). I'd love a pretty first name though.

2. What do you with with change that you receive from banks/purchases/find on the ground?

Depends what kind of change it is. If it's quarters, they go towards the laundry fund (yeah, the stupid machines in our apartment building only take quarters with no change machine down there). Dimes and nickels go in a change holder than dingoespain and I keep as a kind of savings account. And the pennies are the same, only they get their own.

3. If you could travel back in time to change the course of one historical event, what event would it be?

Probably prevent Hitler from being born. I'm not sure the Holocaust would have been nearly has deadly and horrible, if there hadn't been such an effective leader/spokesman. From what I remember of history, Hitler wasn't as dangerous until he became such a passionate speaker. He inspired others to do the atrocities that killed so many.

4. Would you rather live a safe, stable, moderately interesting life or one where every day was dangerous, volatile, and different?

I vote for safe, stable, moderately interesting. I can safely say I'm living that life... although lately moderately interesting has became just safe and stable. There's something for being said for knowing what you'll be facing in the day.

5. What do you think you'll be remembered for when you die and, if you could, would you change it to something else?

All the cats I will own one day. LOL!! I'm not sure. I hope that I was a respectful and hard working individual who did well it sll that she tried to do. Or something to that effect...

Purge time!

Because I don't have a lot of time or energy to keep up with LJ anymore, I've done a purge of a lot of the communities that I am a member of. With that said, I'm hoping to find the time to actually concentrate on my friends.

As I was looking over my flist, I realized there are some people that I'm friends with that I rarely speak with. I'd like to rectify that, because I think I obviously hold some of that responsibility.

With that said, I will be going thru my flist randomly (especially with those I don't read from a lot) and try to comment. Just to keep up with everyone.

I haven't really spoken a lot recently either, which could explain why others don't know me either. So this is a chance to that, if you'd like to.

Ask me a question (several questions, perhaps), ask me to take a picture of something... whatever. I'm open for suggestions.

I think that's it for now.

We wanted to adopt another because we had the perfect name picked out for Kane's little brother. We've been answering just about every listing on craigslist, and today it paid off! We found a 4 month old ginger-colored boy kitten.

Meet Carlson:

Our little Kane isn't quite sure what to make of the new little one, but we are slowly introducing the two to one another. Carlson seems okay about the big kitty around, and seems very comfortable in his new surroundings already. We'll give you updates!

Totally have it!</strike> 13 Going On 30 - dingoespain

9. It can't be a dream! How can 2 people have the same dream. Ok lets analyse this. In the middle of the night... did I get up... and yack in your sink? Didn't throw up? No? Maybe it was a dream then, you know... a very weird... bizarre... vivid... erotic... wet... detailed dream. Maybe we had malaria.

10. This is where they fought the battle of Gettysburg. Fifty thousand men died right here on this field, fighting the same fight that we are still fighting among ourselves today. This green field right here, painted red, bubblin' with the blood of young boys. Smoke and hot lead pouring right through their bodies. Listen to their souls, men. I killed my brother with malice in my heart. Hatred destroyed my family. You listen, and you take a lesson from the dead. If we don't come together right now on this hallowed ground, we too will be destroyed, just like they were. I don't care if you like each other of not, but you will respect each other.

11. Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm and shout as you did in Rome. Do your worst, for I will do mine!

12. A child's voice, however honest and true, is meaningless to those who've forgotten how to listen.

13. <strike>They all have husbands and wives and children and houses and dogs, and, you know, they've all made themselves a part of something and they can talk about what they do. What am I gonna say? "I killed the president of Paraguay with a fork. How've you been?"</strike> Grosse Point Blank - dingoespain

14. <strike>Mama, there is a painful difference between the expectation of an unpleasant event and its final certainty.</strike> Sense and Sensibility - dingoespain

15. <strike>Well, ain't this place a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere!</strike> O Brother, Where Art Thou? - jadore_dorff

16. <strike>I know you hurtin' and worryin', I can feel it on you, but you oughta quit on it now. Because I want it over and done. I do. I'm tired, boss. Tired of bein' on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain. Tired of not ever having me a buddy to be with, or tell me where we's coming from or going to, or why. Mostly I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world everyday. There's too much of it. It's like pieces of glass in my head all the time. Can you understand?</strike> The Green Mile - dingoespain

17. <strike>Do you know what makes a human being decent? Fear. And therein lies the problem. None of you has anything left to fear anymore.
